Reliable, Experienced, Certified Technicians
If the opener hums but the door does not move, the remote has stopped working, or the door reverses partway down, the cause may be in the opener, its controls or the door hardware. We diagnose it before recommending a repair or replacement. 1A Garage Doors services LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman and Linear openers across Sacramento, most often the same day. Call (916) 838-8182.
Common symptoms and what they usually mean
- Motor runs, door stays put. A disengaged trolley, damaged drive parts or a broken spring can leave the door stationary. We check the door and opener for related damage. Spring replacement.
- Door starts down, then reverses. Blocked or misaligned sensors, wiring, binding hardware or travel settings can cause this. Do not bypass sensors or increase force to overcome resistance. Sensor service.
- Grinding or rattling. Worn gears or rollers, or loose drive and mounting hardware, are possibilities.
- Remote works but the wall button does not, or the reverse. Check remote batteries and the wall control's lock mode first. Programming, wiring or a failed control can also cause this.
- Nothing happens at all. We check outlet power, the GFCI or breaker, and controls before diagnosing an internal fault. During an outage, a depleted backup battery is another possibility.
- Door stops partway. We check springs, cables and binding before the model-specific travel settings. More force will not repair a mechanical fault.
Repair or replace
Gear kits, logic boards, safety sensors, wall controls, remotes and rail parts are all normal repairs. Replacement makes more sense when parts for that model are no longer made, when the unit has failed repeatedly, or when you want features it cannot support. New residential openers installed in California must include battery backup, which can operate the door in an outage while its battery has sufficient charge. When both options are real, we give you both prices.
What a visit costs
Repair and service visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee. We test the opener, the door balance and the safety reverse, then give you a written price before any work starts.
What we check on an opener call
- Door balance and spring condition, because a binding or unbalanced door can overload an opener.
- The drive system: gears, chain or belt, rail and trolley.
- Safety sensors and auto-reverse, plus travel and force settings.
- Remotes, keypad and wall control, including programming. Keypad installation.
If the noise is the problem
For a bedroom over the garage, we identify whether the noise comes from the door, drive or mounting hardware. A compatible belt-drive opener and nylon rollers can reduce noise, but they do not repair a binding door. Tell us that is the goal when you book, and we will quote the door and the opener together. A door with intact hardware may benefit from a tune-up.

Common questions
Can my opener be repaired, or do I need a new one?
Gear kits, logic boards, sensors, wall controls and remotes are normal repairs. Replacement makes sense when parts for the model are gone, when it keeps failing, or when you want features it cannot support. We price both when both are real options.
Which opener brands do you service?
LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman and Linear, along with most chain, belt, screw drive and wall-mount systems. Call (916) 838-8182 with the brand and model if you can see it.
What does an opener repair visit cost?
Repair and service visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee. We test the opener, the door balance and the safety reverse, then give you a written price before work starts.
My door starts closing then goes back up. Is that the opener?
Blocked or misaligned sensors are one possibility. Binding hardware, travel settings and wiring can also cause reversal. Look for an obstruction and check the model's indicator guide. Never bypass sensors or increase force to make a sticking door close.
Do you install openers with battery backup?
Yes. New residential openers installed in California are required to have battery backup, and can operate during an outage while the battery has sufficient charge.
