Should I repair or replace my garage door?
Most garage door problems are a single failed part, and those are repairs. A broken spring, a frayed cable, worn rollers or a misaligned sensor can be fixed without replacing the door. Replacement starts to make sense when the door itself is the problem rather than one of its parts.
Usually a repair
- A broken torsion or extension spring.
- A frayed or snapped cable.
- Noisy or worn rollers and hinges.
- A door that reverses because of the safety sensors.
- One damaged section on a door whose panels are still made.
Often a replacement
- Several sections are badly dented, cracked or rotted.
- The door will not stay aligned in its tracks even after adjustment.
- Repairs keep coming back, so you are paying for visits on a door near the end of its life.
- The panel you need is no longer made, so a repair would not match.
How to find out which way yours leans
Call (916) 838-8182 and describe what happened. We can usually tell you which way it leans before the visit. On site, repair visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee and you approve a written price before work starts; if a new door is the better value, the estimate for it is free. For older doors specifically, see whether an old garage door is worth repairing.
