Can you repair a tall RV garage door?
Tall RV bay doors are standard sectional doors built larger, but the extra height and weight change several things. The springs have to be sized for a heavier door with longer travel, the tracks need enough clearance to run the full height, and the opener has to be approved for that door size and rail configuration. We service tall doors when those pieces line up, and tell you when something needs to change.
What we check on site
- Balance and spring sizing: whether the springs carry the door's actual weight through its full travel.
- Track and clearance: whether the track layout and ceiling space suit the door's height.
- Rail length: whether the opener rail is long enough for the door to open fully.
- Duty rating: whether the opener is approved for the door's size and how often it runs.
- Cables, rollers and hinges, which take more load on a tall, heavy door.
Why a stronger motor is not the answer
When a tall door struggles, it is tempting to install a more powerful opener. But if the door is binding or out of balance, more motor power just forces a problem door to move, which wears the opener, arm and hardware faster and leaves the real cause in place. The springs and track get corrected first, and then the opener is matched to a door that moves freely. A balance test is a good first look.
Before the visit
Tell us the door's known height and width and the opener model, and mention how often the door is used. Repair visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee, and you approve a written price before work starts.
