Signs the door is off track

• One side sits lower than the other, or the door looks crooked in the opening.
• Rollers are visibly out of the rail, or there is a gap between the door and the track.
• Grinding or scraping as the door moves, or it binds and stops partway.
• A lift cable hangs loose or has unwound from the drum in the top corner.

Why doors come off track

• Impact. Backing into the door, even lightly, bends rail and knocks rollers out of it.
• Worn rollers. Worn, cracked or seized rollers can contribute to a door coming out of its track.
• A broken cable or spring. One side drops, the door twists, and the rollers leave the rail. Spring replacement.
• Something in the track. A tool, a bike handle, or built-up debris.
• Loose hardware. Track brackets work loose over thousands of cycles and the rail drifts out of line.

Why this is not a do-it-yourself repair

An off-track door may be poorly supported, with spring energy still stored in the system. Prying rollers back into the rail can release that tension, drop the door, or bend the track past repair, and it usually leaves the door out of balance, which then wears out the opener. What we do on the visit

1. Support the door and release tension safely where the repair needs it.
2. Seat the rollers back in the track, and straighten or replace the damaged section.
3. Replace worn rollers, bent brackets and any cable that frayed or came off the drum.
4. Rebalance the door, follow the opener manual for travel and force setup, and test photo-eye protection and contact reversal.

Is the door ruined if a car hit it?
