Do I need to replace all the garage door hinges?
Hinges wear at different rates depending on their position and load, so one failed hinge does not mean every hinge on the door is bad. Each one gets inspected, and the decision is made hinge by hinge, with you seeing the worn ones before anything is replaced.
When replacing only the failed ones makes sense
- A single hinge cracked from an impact or a loose bolt, and the rest look sound.
- The wear is isolated and the door is otherwise in good condition.
- Bolt holes on the other hinges are tight and the sections line up.
When doing more at once is the better value
- Several hinges show cracks around the bolt holes or along the plate.
- Rust is widespread, common on doors that face weather or sit near sprinklers.
- Holes have elongated from bolts working loose over months of use.
- The rollers are also worn, since worn rollers and worn hinges usually show up together.
On an older door where many hinges are cracking, replacing them in one visit avoids paying for another trip each time the next one fails.
Matching matters either way
Whether it is one hinge or a full set, each replacement has to match the number and gauge the door calls for at that position. We check the rollers and track on the same visit, tighten the hardware and cycle the door. The visit carries a $45 diagnostic trip fee, and the written price shows exactly which hinges are being replaced before work starts. If noise is your main concern, see whether new hinges make a door quieter.
