Sacramento Garage Door Hinge Replacement

Cracked or worn garage door hinges make the door loud, let the sections shift out of line, and can eventually pull a roller out of the track. We replace hinges on steel, wood and aluminum sectional doors across Sacramento, usually in one visit. Call (916) 838-8182.

Signs a hinge needs replacing

  • A metal-on-metal creak or bang at the same point in every cycle.
  • A visible crack or tear in the hinge plate, often around the bolt holes.
  • Sections that no longer line up, or a gap that opens between two sections as the door bends over the curve.
  • Rust at the hinge, common on doors that face weather or sit near sprinklers.
  • Loose or missing bolts, or elongated holes where a bolt has been working loose for months.

Why the hinge number matters

On many sectional doors, numbered end hinges set how far the roller sits from the door face so the sections track correctly around the curve. Center hinges and end hinges also do different jobs: end hinges carry the roller and take the load. Fitting the wrong number, or a lighter gauge than the door calls for, makes the door bind and wears the track. We match the hinge to the door model, track geometry and position, including its specified gauge.

Why a cracked end hinge is urgent

An end hinge holds a roller in the track. If it fails while the door is moving, that corner can come out of the rail and take the door with it. If you can see a cracked end hinge, stop using the door and call. Off-track repair.

What we do on the visit

  1. Inspect every hinge, roller and the track for damage, not just the one making noise.
  2. Replace the failed hinges with the correct number and gauge for that door.
  3. Check the rollers at the same time, since worn rollers and worn hinges usually arrive together.
  4. Tighten the hardware, lubricate the points specified by the manufacturer, and cycle the door to confirm the noise is gone.

What it costs

Repair and service visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee. Hinges themselves are inexpensive parts, so the price depends on how many have failed and whether rollers or a section need attention too. You get the number before we start. If the door is due for service anyway, a tune-up covers hinges, rollers, hardware and balance in the same visit.

Hinge questions we get

Can I replace a garage door hinge myself?

Have a trained technician replace damaged hinges using the door manufacturer's specification and proper support. Numbering is not universal. Never loosen cable-bearing bottom fixtures or remove hardware from an unsupported or crooked door.

Do I need to replace all of them?

No. We replace the ones that have failed and show you any that are close. On an older door where many are cracking, doing them together in one visit costs less than repeat trips.

Will new hinges make the door quieter?

Often, though the usual noise-maker is worn steel rollers. We will tell you which one you have, and what the difference in cost is. Garage door repair.
