When a keypad is the right fix

• Kids who come home before you do, without carrying a key.
• A remote that has been lost, or one remote shared between two drivers.
• Tenants, house sitters, dog walkers or trades who need access for a short time.
• A second way to operate a working opener. A keypad cannot open a damaged door or an unpowered opener.
• An existing keypad with worn buttons, water damage, or a code nobody remembers.

What we do on the visit

1. Confirm which keypad works with your opener. This depends on the model and the age of the opener, not only the brand.
2. Mount it within sight of the door, away from moving parts and out of children's reach, at the height required by its manual.
3. Program the opener to the keypad and set your code.
4. Test it from outside, and show you how to change the code and add a temporary one if the model supports it.

Common keypad problems

• Nothing happens. Check the keypad battery, opener power and the model's lock settings. If it still fails, we check compatibility, programming and keypad damage.
• Some buttons work, some do not. Worn or water-damaged pad, which is a replacement rather than a repair.
• The opener will not learn the keypad. Check compatibility and the exact programming sequence first. A weak battery or a keypad or receiver fault can also prevent pairing.
• The code stopped working. Check the battery, lock mode and model-specific programming instructions. Holding a Learn button too long can erase stored remotes and keypads on some models.

What it costs

Repair and service visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee. The keypad itself and the programming are quoted before we start. If we are already at the house for another repair, adding a keypad is usually the cheapest time to do it.

Will a keypad work with my current opener?

Most openers made in the last two decades support one. Compatibility depends on the model and its frequency, so tell us the brand and model when you call, or send a label photo only if readable safely without climbing or going under a damaged door.

Can I set more than one code?

Code capacity varies. Some keypads offer a temporary PIN, while others use a single PIN for each programmed opener. We will tell you what your model can do and set it up with you.

Is a keypad secure?

A compatible rolling-code system helps protect the radio signal, but anyone who knows your PIN can operate the door. Avoid obvious codes, remove temporary access when it ends, and keep remotes secure. Opener repair and upgrades.
