Clopay Coachman combines an insulated steel door with composite overlays to create a carriage-house look. It opens overhead as a sectional door. Compare the overlay design and insulation package separately: choosing a Coachman design does not automatically select its thermal performance.
What is the four-layer construction?
The construction is steel, insulation, steel and a composite overlay. The decorative overlay creates the carriage pattern; it is not an extra layer of foam. Clopay offers polystyrene and Intellicore polyurethane insulation options.

Design and insulation choices
The current Coachman catalog groups designs into four style series. Compare the actual design, base and overlay colors, window layout and insulation specification. Use the quoted model's published R-value rather than assuming all Coachman doors are identical.
Coachman, Gallery or Canyon Ridge?
- Coachman adds composite overlays to insulated steel for carriage detailing.
- Gallery Steel creates its grooved carriage appearance in the steel panel itself.
- Canyon Ridge offers wood-look composite surfaces and additional construction choices.
See the Clopay collection comparison before choosing a design.

What to confirm on the quote
Ask for the door size, design, insulation option, glass, decorative hardware, installation scope and warranty. For painting or later color changes, follow Coachman's current finish instructions; not every paint or dark color is suitable for every construction.
A technician should verify spring sizing and opener compatibility during installation. The overlay reduces real-wood upkeep but still needs approved cleaning and finish care.
