Garage door trim is the molding that runs around the door's perimeter where it meets the wall, closing the gap for looks and for a tighter seal against drafts and pests. It comes in wood, vinyl or aluminum, and is a different part from the flexible weatherstripping gasket that seals against the door itself.

Signs it needs attention
- Cracking, warping or peeling, most common on wood trim.
- Gaps opening between the trim and the wall or door.
- Drafts, light or pests coming through at the edges.
Repair or replace
Small sections of damaged trim can often be cut out and replaced with matching material, a reasonable project for someone comfortable with basic carpentry. Decorative trim is separate from the spring system, but do not remove structural jamb material, track attachments or spring-anchor hardware to reach it. Keep the door closed and prevent operation while working near the opening; leave uncertain structural or door-hardware work to a professional. Trim is often addressed at the same time as a new door installation or a weatherstripping replacement.
