Does an off-track garage door mean I need a new door?
An off-track door looks dramatic, but the cause is usually in the hardware, not the door. Worn rollers, loose track brackets, debris in the rail, or a broken cable on one side can all knock a door out of its track while the panels stay in good shape.
What is usually repaired
- Resetting the rollers in the track.
- Straightening a bent section of rail or replacing it with matched track.
- Replacing worn or cracked rollers and bent brackets.
- Replacing a cable that frayed or came off its drum.
- Rebalancing the door and testing the opener's safety functions.
When replacement comes into the conversation
The main exception is impact. If a car hit the door, we look at how many sections are damaged and whether the rail is straight. When damage is limited to one or two sections, those sections can often be replaced. When the damage is widespread, or matching sections are not available, a new door can be the better value, and we will tell you on site. See whether a door is ruined after a car hits it and whether the whole track needs replacing.
What to expect
Repair visits carry a $45 diagnostic trip fee. Once we see what bent or broke, you get a written price before we start. If a new door makes more sense, we provide a free on-site estimate with a written quote so you can compare. Until then, leave the door where it is and keep clear of it. More on off-track repair.
