Chamberlain offers chain-drive, belt-drive and wall-mount garage door openers. For a new unit, compare door fit, battery backup and whether myQ is built in. For a fault, start with the model number and symptom; a reversing door does not automatically mean the sensors or motor need replacement.
Which type fits your garage?
- Belt drive: often a quieter choice near living space.
- Chain drive: an overhead option to compare on price and supported door limits.
- Wall-mount: frees ceiling space but requires a compatible door and shaft arrangement.
Wi-Fi is a feature of selected models, not a separate drive type. For an example with belt drive and battery backup, see Chamberlain B2215T.
Safe checks for a problem opener
- Remote fails, wall control works: check the remote battery and whether the wall control's lock mode is on.
- Door reverses: look for an obstruction and clean visible sensor lenses. Binding, travel settings and door damage are other possible causes.
- Motor runs without door movement: stop repeated attempts. The trolley, drive system or door hardware may need inspection.
- New grinding or uneven motion: stop use and arrange service, regardless of drive type.
Phone control and HomeKit
Use myQ's compatibility guidance to check built-in connectivity or an add-on hub. Do not buy an old Home Bridge expecting a supported HomeKit solution: Chamberlain ended Home Bridge support.
Power outages and replacement
Battery backup operates a compatible opener during an outage; it does not guarantee internet or app access. New California residential opener installations require backup. Never pull the emergency release while the door is open, off-track or has a damaged spring or cable.
