A garage spring repair quote should explain whether the spring has failed and whether cables, drums or other hardware also need work. A broken spring is replaced, not patched. At 1A Garage Doors, a repair visit carries a $45 diagnostic trip fee, with a written repair price for you to approve before work starts.
Is the spring the only repair needed?
A bang followed by a door that will not lift can indicate a broken spring, but the technician needs to inspect the system. Ask which fault was found and which additional parts, if any, are damaged. A list of possible problems is not the same as a diagnosis.
| Finding | Question for the repair quote |
|---|---|
| Broken spring with otherwise sound hardware | Does the price include the replacement spring, labor, balancing and testing? |
| Cable off its drum or visibly damaged | Can it be safely reset, or is replacement needed? What caused it to come off? |
| Damaged bearings, drums or attachments | Which parts need replacement and how does each affect safe operation? |
| Opener strains after a spring failure | Is the opener damaged, or was it unable to lift the unbalanced door? |

Separate necessary repairs from optional upgrades
Ask for the work needed to return the door to service first. Have optional upgrades listed separately, with their purpose explained. A higher-cycle spring is an option to discuss for frequent use; replacing an undamaged opener is a different decision.
For spring selection, one-versus-two replacement and what the finished job should include, see the spring replacement quote checklist.
Confirm the total before authorizing work
- Ask whether the $45 diagnostic fee is separate from or credited toward the repair.
- Confirm parts, labor, any applicable tax and any after-hours charge.
- Get the parts and labor warranty and any excluded work in writing.
Until the door is inspected
Stop using the opener and keep people and vehicles clear. Do not release an open door or adjust springs, cables or bottom brackets. A stronger opener will not make a broken spring safe.
