A garage door opener reset can mean restarting power, erasing remotes, or resetting Wi-Fi. Choose the reset that matches the problem. A power restart usually preserves remote codes; erasing accessories removes access and requires reprogramming. A reset will not repair a broken spring, cable or binding door.
Choose the reset you need

Example: erase remotes on a conventional LiftMaster or Chamberlain Learn-button opener
- Confirm the model manual specifies this method. Keep the door in sight and the opening clear.
- Hold Learn until its indicator goes out, about six seconds on many models, then release.
- Pair each wanted remote and keypad using its own instructions.
- Verify wanted devices work and lost-device access has been removed where you can test it.
This example does not apply to every brand or control panel. Some wall controls and newer models differ. See Chamberlain Group's Learn-button functions or the exact Genie manual. Do not keep holding the button for an arbitrary 20 seconds or assume this clears app accounts.
If reset does not help
If a wall control works but a remote does not, the fault could be the remote, receiver, lock setting or interference. If the motor strains, the door hangs crooked, or a spring or cable is damaged, stop using it. Do not increase force or pull an emergency release on an open or damaged door.
Reach the controls only from a stable ladder outside the door's path. Leave exposed wiring and internal electronics to a technician.
