How long does a garage door installation take?
For a standard replacement, the old door comes out and the new one goes in during one visit. The longer part of the timeline is usually before installation day: if your door is a custom size, has a special finish or has to be ordered, we give you the lead time in writing with the quote so you can plan around it.
What happens on installation day
- The old door, its springs and hardware are taken down and hauled away.
- The new sections, track, rollers, hinges and springs are installed and the door is balanced for its weight.
- The opener is set up with travel and force limits, the safety sensors are aligned and the auto-reverse is tested.
- We walk you through the door, the manual release and the remotes.
What can make the job longer
- Ordered or custom doors: non-standard sizes, specialty glass or finishes add lead time before the install.
- Opener work: if the existing opener is not compatible or lacks battery backup, replacing it is added to the same job. See whether you can keep your existing opener.
- Conditions found at the opening: the on-site measure checks headroom, backroom and side clearance so surprises are caught at the estimate, not on install day.
How to get ready
Move vehicles out and clear stored items away from the door, the tracks and the ceiling area where the opener and springs sit. Let us know about gate codes or HOA rules for work crews. Plan to leave the garage door closed and out of use while the crew is working. Leave the old door in place for the crew; its springs are still under tension, so removing it ahead of time is not a safe shortcut.
