My house is new. Should I call the builder or a garage door company?
Start with your builder warranty paperwork. If the garage door problem is still covered, use that coverage, since it is already part of what you paid for. If the warranty has expired or does not cover the door or the type of problem, call us at (916) 838-8182 and we will take care of it like any other repair.
What to look for in the paperwork
- Coverage period: builder warranties often cover different parts of the house for different lengths of time, so find the section that applies to the garage door and opener.
- Who to contact: some builders send their own installer, others refer you to the door or opener manufacturer.
- What is excluded: damage from a vehicle impact, wear items such as remote batteries, or problems caused by later adjustments are commonly treated differently from installation defects.
- How to file: many builders want a written request or a portal submission before they schedule anyone.
While you wait for an answer
If the door is working but noisy or a remote has stopped, it is usually fine to wait for the builder's response. If you heard a bang and the door will not lift, a cable has come off, or the door is crooked in its track, stop using it and keep people and cars out from under it. Do not adjust springs or cables yourself; that is unsafe, and it can also complicate a warranty claim.
If the builder will not cover it
A repair visit carries a $45 diagnostic trip fee. We diagnose the problem, explain what failed and give you a written price to approve before work starts. Builder-grade doors in newer neighborhoods often share similar hardware, so tell us the age of the house and what the door is doing when you call.
