Do you remove and haul away the old garage door?
Yes. When we install a new door, taking down the old door and hauling it away is part of the job, not an extra trip you have to arrange. That covers the old sections and the hardware that comes off with them, so the garage is left with the new door and nothing to dispose of.
What comes out with the old door
- The door sections or one-piece panel.
- Old track, rollers, hinges and brackets that are being replaced.
- The old springs and cables, which have to be released safely before anything else is removed.
Because the new door gets track, rollers, hinges and springs sized to its own weight, most of the old hardware is replaced rather than reused. The on-site estimate confirms what stays and what goes.
Why you should not take the old door down yourself
It can seem like a way to save time, but a closed garage door is held in balance by springs under high tension, and the lift cables connect those springs to the bottom of the door. Unbolting sections, cables or bottom brackets before the tension is properly released can cause serious injury. Leave the old door in place and let the installation crew remove it in the right order.
What to do before installation day
- Clear the floor in front of the door and along both tracks.
- Move anything stored near the ceiling where the springs and opener rail sit.
- Tell us if you want to keep any part of the old setup, such as a keypad, so we can check it during the estimate.
If you are still deciding between a repair and a replacement, see whether we install new doors or only repair them.
